SPIETH, SCOTT SIGN UP FOR AUSSIE OPEN DEFENDING Australian Open champion Jordan Spieth and former winner Adam Scott are both confirmed starters at this year’s Emirates Australian Open at The Australian Golf Club from November 26 to 29. Scott won the 2009 Australian Open at New South Wales Golf Club, bettering the field by five shots at the tournament’s only visit to that venue. He has been a regular contender in the country’s most famous tournament, finishing fifth at The Australian last year, runner-up to Rory McIlroy in 2013, 14th at The Lakes in 2012 and fourth in 2011. “The Australian Open is a tournament that I value highly, Sydney is a great city and The Australian Golf Club is an excellent venue for championship golf,” Scott said. “I am really looking forward to competing to win my national Open once again.” Golf Australia chief executive Stephen Pitt said Scott’s appearance would provide a foundation for what is shaping as a white- hot field. MORE> NEXT US OPEN SITES NAMED THE next nine US Open venues are now in place after the United States Golf Association announced the 2022, 2023 and 2024 host clubs, sites that include an old favourite, a revitalised gem and a regular stop. The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, will stage the 2022 US Open with Los Angeles Country Club’s North course staging the championship a year later and Pinehurst Resort’s No.2 Course hosting the 2024 edition. “We are elated to host our national championship at these three historic venues,” said USGA president Thomas O’Toole Jnr. “Each one is located in a region where golf and sports are celebrated, and we have already felt tremendous community support. We look forward to the test of golf that each of these classic designs will present to the world’s best players.” The ’22 US Open will be the fourth at The Country Club, which most recently hosted the 2013 US Amateur, won by England’s Matthew Fitzpatrick over Perth’s Oliver Goss.
