AUSTRALIA Local favourites Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith deserve – and have been receiving – plenty of respect from other teams. Ian Poulter, representing England, said: “I definitely see that Australian partnership as being favourites and I see them as the team to beat.” Leishman kicked off his 2018/19 PGA Tour season in perfect fashion, claiming the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur by five shots. The man from Warrnambool said he mulled over selecting his former World Cup partner Adam Scott. But he ultimately landed on Smith and was full of praise for the reigning Australian PGA champion after the pair celebrated Leishman’s victory in Malaysia. “He’s an awesome player,” Leishman said. “Winning the Australian PGA – or winning anything – is awesome but I’m learning from him as well. “We’ve played a fair few practice rounds together and I’ve had to lift my game just to keep up with him. His wedge play impresses me a lot and it’s made me work harder at that ...
