Golf Australia Express : GA Express 315
THE MOMENT A star is born Swollen crowds witnessed a moment of magic at 3pm last Sunday afternoon at Metropolitan Golf Club. The Australian team of Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith were trailing the breakaway Belgians by five shots at the World Cup of Golf in Melbourne. Something special would be required with only five holes remaining ... Nearly all hope was lost however when Leishman left his team’s ball in the greenside bunker at the par-5 14th. Up stepped Smith, whose short game had been on fire all week. Event organisers might’ve hoped it was Adam Scott or Jason Day in his place. But Smith was about to confirm exactly why Leishman had selected him as his partner. The 25-year-old took out his wedge, splashed the ball over the lip of the bunker and watched as it rolled towards the pin. The crowd started to murmur as the ball continued towards the hole ... Then exploded as it fell into the cup for birdie. The Australians eventually finished tied-second with Mexico. But Smith proved to everyone watching why he belongs in the same sentence as Leishman, Scott and Day.
