Golf Australia Express : June 2013-US OPEN
WORLD CUP HEADING DOWN UNDER THE news doesn’t get much bigger for golf in Australia than the announcement the World Cup of Golf is coming here. The event will be played at Royal Melbourne from November 21-24 and will include 60 of the world’s best players in a single stroke play and teams format. And with the tournament to directly follow the Australian Masters at the same course, we may be lucky to catch those PGA Tour drawcards for a couple of weeks in a row. “This is a great day for golf and a great day for Australia,” PGA of Australia chief executive Brian Thorburn said. “The addition of the World Cup will complement an already strong swing of tournaments including the Australian PGA, Open and Masters and will significantly boost the international player prospects for these events.” COUPLES, LOVE RE-UNITE THE Presidents Cup boys’ club is growing over in the US camp, with captain Fred Couples adding Davis Love III as his second assistant. Couples announced Love was coming on board at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club, which will also host the Cup from October 1-6. Here’s hoping the pair’s Cup vibes don’t rub off on the players— in four Presidents Cups together they amassed a 5-2-1 record as a pairing. AROUND THE TRAPS APPY DAYS GOT a BlackBerry? The PGA Tour has an app for you. All BlackBerry 10 owners now have access to a free Tour app, which includes live leaderboards for every event, video highlights, course overviews and hole-by-hole previews, Twitter feeds from the pros and all the latest PGA Tour news. TIGER IN TURKEY TURKEY will host its first ever European Tour event later this year at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal course. And that’s not all. The Turkish Airlines Open, to be held from November 7-10, will become one of the final four events in the Race to Dubai series and has already secured the services of one Tiger Woods.
