Golf Australia Express : September 2013
LETTERS THE PURISTS WOULD have us believe that a swing needs to be this and that. The swing you have is yours and you make it work as best you can. We can't all coil into a spring and unleash like flexible rubber bands. It is those with their 'head' in the game that come up trumps, despite an irregular swing or unorthodox backswing or gammy follow through. If you are good at golf, like all PGA pros, you have to want it more than the other guys. Oh, and make a few putts, too. —WILL ERWIN, VIA EMAIL THE LETTER OF THE MONTH RECEIVES A DOZEN CALLAWAY HEX BLACK TOUR BALLS ON RORY'S SICK SWING... RORY'S GAME has succumbed to his celebrity status. If you follow him on Twitter he and his girlfriend are out all the time. Front row seats at the basketball, opening night here, charity cocktail do there. But who can really blame him? He has earned a whole lot of money and he is enjoying it. He hasn't turned into one of the brat pack. He’s just enjoying life on a scale that many of us wish we could reach one day. —DAVID BOWTELL, VIA EMAIL ON VIJAY SINGH'S LAWSUIT... VIJAY YOU are a legend as a result of your 34 PGA titles including 3 majors. And I am a HUGE fan of yours and have always fiercely desired you to win every time you were in contention to win a PGA event. In a sport full of nice guys, you should just forget the issue Vijay and look forward to dominating the Senior Tour. Withdraw your suit Vijay and I will be a very happy man. —RA LPH GRAPENTIN, VIA EMAIL YOUR THOUGHTS... LETTER OF THE MONTH IT'S NOT just Rory, he is just the most obvious of the new Nike ensemble. Nike must be feeling nervous. None of the big off-season signings have done much at all this year. They better have some performance clause or a good ‘out’ clause in their deals, because at the moment this is not making the Covert range look good at a retail level. Who wants to play like Rory now? Nobody. —MICHAEL CLIFFORD VIA EMAIL TELL US YOUR THOUGHTS TELL US YOUR THOUGHTS
